Basalt Columns

Basalt Columns have been incorporated into the design of buildings and other structures, used as decorative elements in landscaping and gardens both vertically and/or horizontally, and can be cut and/or polished for use as countertops, seats, or other decorative and building materials.

Marenakos carries natural basalt Columbia and Huckleberry columns available in various diameters and lengths. Some columns are pre-drilled for use as water features or light posts and/or have sawn bottoms for upright use and ease of installation. Our fabrication department can sandblast address numbers or artistic designs on columns, or cut and/or drill these beautiful stones to fit your project needs.

The Columbia Basin in Washington state is home to a unique geological formation known as the Columbia Basalt Columns. These columns are formed from ancient lava flows that cooled and solidified as they flowed across the landscape. Columbia columns are hexagonal in shape with natural brown outsides and dark (almost black) centers.

Found in the hills of Whistler BC, Huckleberry Basalt Columns are naturally formed out of volcanic rock. Huckleberry basalt has a charcoal-grey color throughout with the outsides of these columns presenting dark hues of browns, tans, and sometimes lichens. This unique, organic-shaped basalt is a natural fit into any landscaping project.
