SAND-SET APPLICATION

The term “sand setting” refers to the method of installing stone by placing it on a mixture of fine sand and gravel. The stone should be thick enough, at least 1-2 inches or more, to withstand the weight of people walking on it. For a concise guide, please consult the following instructions.

TUMBLED FLAGSTONE

The tumbled material is subjected to an additional processing stage where it is tumbled to soften its sharp edges, resulting in all the edges having a nice rounded profile. The pieces typically fall within the small to medium size range after the tumbling process. 

MORTAR-SET APPLICATION

A mortar set application involves using a cementitious mortar to attach the stone onto an existing concrete slab, as opposed to a sand-set application where the stone is laid on a gravel & sand base. With a mortar set application, the stone is supported by a structural setting-bed underneath it, which allows for a thinner thickness of 1″ or less.
